Frequently asked questions

Q. How do I reply to an ad?
Every posting shows a relay address like rtb-30412@rivertownboard.com. Email it and the board forwards your message to the poster. Their real address stays private (and so does yours until you choose to answer). If the ad lists a phone number, calling is usually faster — this is not a big email town.

Q. Why can't I put a picture in my ad?
The board has never done pictures. Half the reasons are technical (disk space, and the moderation pile would take four times as long), half are on principle: a good description beats a blurry photo of a couch in a dark garage. This is rule 6 and it is not changing. Post it, describe it, and let them come look at it.

Q. Where's the app / why does the site look like this?
There's no app. The site looks like 2004 because it's from 2004 and it still works on every computer in the county including the library's. An "rss feed" exists for the newest ads (/rss.php, or per category from any category page) if you want ads delivered to a reader program.

Q. My ad disappeared!
Ads expire after 45 days, automatically. Or it broke a rule. Repost it (maybe with a better price).

Q. How do I edit an ad?
You can't, directly — email the webmaster with your posting number and the fix, a volunteer will key it in.

Q. Can I register on the forums?
Registration has been closed since the 2014 spam wave. Longtime members can still post. Reading is open to everyone. Sorry — the spam was unbelievable.

Q. Is the board affiliated with the Town of Rivertown?
No. The town has its own website with the meeting minutes on it. We just live here.
